2024-05-09 Taiwan-Sri Lanka Academic Exchange: Insights from ISAE 2024 on Medicinal Plant Research and Genetic Diversity Preservation
On May 9, 2024, we participated in the "International Symposium on Agriculture and Environment (ISAE) 2024" hosted by our partner institution, the University of Ruhuna. Professors Chih-Chuang Liaw and Yu-Chung Chiang served as keynote speaker and presenter, respectively.
Professor Chih-Chuang Liaw delivered a keynote speech on "Studies on the Bioactive Components and Medical Function of Commercial Daodi-Ugon, the Roots of Helminthostachys zeylanica," where he explored the bioactive components and medical functions of Helminthostachys zeylanica roots in depth.
In the "Crop Production" section, Professor Yu-Chung Chiang gave an oral presentation titled "Preserving Genetic Diversity in Medicinal Plant Cultivation: Case Studies on Tripterygium wilfordii, T. hypoglaucum, and Nypa fruticans," discussing case studies on the preservation of genetic diversity in medicinal plant cultivation.
This symposium not only fostered academic exchange between Taiwan and Sri Lanka but also created further opportunities for collaboration in the fields of agriculture and the environment. Through the excellent presentations of Professors Liao and Chiang, we gained deeper insights into medicinal plant research and the preservation of genetic diversity. We look forward to more collaboration and innovation in the future, contributing to the advancement of scientific research in both countries.
