2022-11-29 3rd Bilateral Workshop of Taiwan and Sri Lanka Environmental Change Sciences and Technology Innovation Center
In 2022, our center, along with the University of Ruhuna and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura from Sri Lanka, and the University of the Philippines Visayas, jointly organized an online workshop titled "3rd Bilateral workshop of Taiwan and Sri Lanka Environmental Change Sciences and Technology Innovation Center." During the workshop, we shared the progress and results of the bilateral research between Taiwan and Sri Lanka. A total of fifty students and faculty from both sides participated, facilitating meaningful academic exchanges and enhancing language capabilities for the students.
Since its establishment, the Taiwan-Sri Lanka Environmental Change Overseas Research Center has achieved fruitful research outcomes. Dr. Hong Ching-Chang, the Dean of the College of Marine Sciences at National Sun Yat-sen University, shared the research progress of both parties and proposed potential areas for future collaboration. Sri Lankan and Indonesian doctoral students presented their research progress on the carbon sequestration rate of large algae cultured using aquaculture wastewater and the population structure and connectivity of the Sri Lankan blue swimmer crab (Portunus reticulatus), respectively.
Sri Lankan professors also shared the current status and applications of large algae aquaculture in Sri Lanka, while a Filipino professor presented findings on the genetic diversity and structure of the water coconut (Nypa fruticans Wurmb.) population in the Indian-Western Pacific region using microsatellite markers. These presentations have laid the groundwork for potential future collaborative research topics.
